Food and Drink at School

Snack

The Foundation Stage classes have their own snack area where fruit is provided free of charge.  Children in Year 1 and Year 2 have fruit delivered to their classrooms each day as a mid-morning snack.  The School Fruit and Vegetable Scheme is a government programme that entitles every child in England, aged 4-6+ in fully state-funded schools to a piece of fruit or vegetable each school day. Scientists agree that everybody, including children, can reduce their risk of heart disease and cancer by eating at least five portions of fruit and vegetables. The selection ranges from apples, pears, strawberries, raisins, cucumber, bananas and satsumas. Water is continually available so children do not need to bring a water bottle to school.

 Free School Milk

Our school provides a milk scheme that is available to all of our pupils and we would like to invite you to register your child. School milk is free for under-5s, and for over -5s it is available at a subsidised price per term. Each child that is registered with Cool Milk will receive a 189ml portion of semi-skimmed milk every day, delivered fresh and chilled to the classroom. Their school milk will not only provide them with essential nutrients, but as it rehydrating and energy boosting it also bridges the gap between breakfast and lunch to help children stay focused.

SCHOOL LUNCHES
Under the Universal Free School Meals (UFSM) scheme all Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 pupils are entitled to free school meals and you do not need to complete a form for your child to receive them. However, if you are eligible for certain benefits, listed on the attachment above, you may also qualify for pupil premium funding which brings in extra money to help support your child in school. If you think you may qualify please do complete and return the form.

All Foundation Stage and Key Stage 1 children who attend full-time will eat lunch together in the dining hall with a designated Midday Meals Supervisor. Children may bring a packed lunch or you can order a hot meal for them. We ask that children have a ‘healthy lunchbox’ – no sweets or fizzy drinks please. As we have children with severe allergies we ask that lunchboxes do not contain nuts - thank you. Children should bring their own lunchtime drink but water is always available if necessary.

Chartwells are our midday meal provider. To be able to order meals for your child you will be issued with the details to set up an account with ParentPay (although no payment is required!)  Once your account is set up you will have access to menus and you can begin to order. Chartwells are able to cater for different dietary requirements.
Parents must order by midnight on Tuesday for lunches to be provided a fortnight later. The school office will email you deadline dates as a reminder on a regular basis.
